CALAMITY WOMAN: A COWGIRLS ART BOOK

Calamity Woman was a collaborative original art book running from the fall of 2019 through the spring of 2020. This anthology portrayed a diverse array of cowgirls through the illustrations and comics of 58 artists.

This was a project of love organized by myself and co-moderator Luke Ge. I conceptualized the book and worked as its co-organizer, communications and social media manager, and graphic/layout designer and editor. I also provided various spot illustrations and standalone artworks for the book itself.

Artists were offered an equal cut of financial compensation for their work with the option to leave their payment for a collective donation to an appropriate cause. All contributors maintain full creative ownership over their individual submissions. Complimentary physical copies of the anthology and its accompanying merchandise were sent to all participants.

Thanks to the gracious donation of profits by our contributors, a total of $10,400 was donated to RAICES and the Navajo & Hopi Families COVID-19 Relief Fund. Our team consciously chose to support these two services as a reparation to the Indigenous populations that are exploited by the frequent colonial revisionism of the mainstream Western genre.

SCORNED: A ZINE FOR MAGICAL & MONSTROUS WOMEN

Scorned was a collaborative art book running from the fall of 2018 to the spring of 2019. We organized this anthology to interrogate the antagonized narratives of mythological women while playfully portraying them in a more positive and empowering light. This book hosts multicultural visual retellings by 44 exceptional artists. Scorned is lovingly structured around the featured written work of poet Nashira.
